We're excited to announce the next in our series of Flutemasters events, with LSO principal flute Gareth Davies. The day will focus on how to get the most out of your orchestral auditions and maximising the opportunities in your orchestral career. Apply now to secure a place.
Gareth is principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Guildford, Surrey, he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has worked with most of the great maestri of our times, Gergiev, Colin Davis, Previn, Maazel, Janssons, Boulez, Rostropovitch and Haitink to name a few.
Gareth has also written many articles for the press including Classic FM magazine and has broadcast on Radio 3 and presented some of the proms for BBC 4 Television. He is responsible for the popular LSO on tour blog where you can read about the ups and downs of life on the road with the orchestra. His writing was recently featured in the Guardian and Telegraph newspapers as well as in 'Why Mahler?', the new book by music commentator Norman Lebrecht. He was recently made a fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The second in our “flutemasters” series was with Emily Beynon. After giving an exquisite recital, Emily worked with six students who gained a great deal from her experience and expertise. Read more.
Emily is principal flute of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam.
Born in Wales, she began her musical education at the Royal College of Music (Junior Department) and then went on to study with William Bennett at the Royal Academy of Music and with Alain Marion in Paris.
She performs regularly as concerto soloist and chamber musician, appears regularly on BBC Radio 3 and has recorded eight solo CDs.
A passionate and dedicated teacher, Emily is frequently asked to give master-classes all over the world. She was made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in 2002.

With more than 20 of his students placed in international orchestras during the last eight years, Robert Winn can certainly claim to be one of Europe’s most successful flute teachers.
Principal flute of the RPO between 1985 and 1999, Robert has worked with most of the major British symphony orchestras, LSO, LPO, BBCSO, Philharmonia and also COE, RSO Berlin, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, and the Köln Radio Symphony.
He has recorded soundtracks for countless Hollywood movies, including Lord of the Rings, Notting Hill, and James Bond, making him one of the most experienced and versatile flute players in the industry.
